Why to Get a Cannabis Card in a Recreational State?

The legalization of the cannabis plant has been a move welcomed with open hands almost everywhere. Currently, there are more than 33 states in the US where the use of marijuana is legal for medical or recreational purposes. And people in these places are making full use of this legalization by getting a medical cannabis card.

But there is one thing that has been a topic of debate for a long time. Is it worth getting a medical cannabis card in a recreational state?

Right now, there are 11 states plus DC where the adult use of cannabis has been legalized. And in these states, anyone can use marijuana, as long as they are above the age of 21. Given this freedom, should you still get a medical cannabis card?

Well, an MMJ card may have some additional benefits even in a recreational state. Let’s take a look.

Affordability

Cannabis, no doubt, is an expensive herb. And it can burn a huge hole in your pocket. But not if you have a cannabis card. Having a medical cannabis card can save you significantly on your marijuana supplies.

First of all, a medical user saves on several taxes that a recreational user has to pay. In some states, these taxes may go up to 40 percent. And secondly, when you have a medical card, in many dispensaries, you are given additional discounts.

Quality

By getting a medical marijuana card, you also make sure you get a good quality product. Now, some people may argue that the source is same for both, recreational as well as medical users. Then, how medical users can get better quality? Well, this is because even in a recreational state, certain high-quality products are reserved specifically for medical users. And you can get your hands on them only if you have an MMJ card.

Dosage

In many places, there is a limit on how much THC your product can have. But this limit is usually different for medical and recreational users. For instance, in California, a single cannabis edible serving cannot have more than 10 mg of THC. But if you have a marijuana card, you can get a product with THC double that amount.

Furthermore, a medical marijuana cardholder is always given preference over a recreational user. Dispensaries keep some stock reserved especially for them for the time of crisis.

Quantity

Along with the access to more potent cannabis, a cannabis card allows you to buy more overall cannabis as compared to a recreational user. For instance, a recreational user in California can buy only one once a day. While if you have a medical cannabis card, you can buy up to eight ounces. But you should note that these limits vary from state to state.

Age

In most states, you cannot consume recreational cannabis unless you are above 21 years of age. But if you have a qualifying medical condition, you can get a cannabis card, and in turn use the herb, as soon as you turn 18. If you want to use cannabis as a medicine, you may get access to it even if you are under 18. But in that case, your primary caregiver should agree to it and should be above 18.

These were a few benefits that make getting a cannabis card even in a recreational state worth it.
